Week 4 Recap
In this week's lesson, we explored what it means that God is Father, Almighty, and Creator — not distant or powerless, but intimately personal yet supremely powerful.
Key themes from Week 4:
- God isn't "something out there" — he's a Father who made everything on purpose
- The Apostles' Creed helps us understand who God really is, beyond our different mental pictures
- Psalm 139: God knows everything about you completely, and you cannot escape his presence
- "He's not safe, but he's good" (Aslan in Narnia) — he's powerful and does things we don't expect
- God made you on purpose, by someone powerful, who loves you personally
Core Question for Reflection
What do you think of when you hear "God"?
Be honest — what's the first image, feeling, or thought that comes to mind? Don't filter it. This isn't about being "right," it's about being real.
Your answer might be: Old man with a beard? A force? A feeling? Anger? Love? Nothing at all? Whatever it is, that's your starting point.
Questions to Help You Dig Deeper
-
Knowing vs. Being Known
Psalm 139 says God knows you completely — your worst thoughts, secret fears, things you've never told anyone. Is this comforting or terrifying to you?
- If it's comforting: Why does it help to know someone sees you completely and still loves you?
- If it's terrifying: What are you afraid God will see or do with what he knows?
- What's one thing you've been hiding that you could finally bring into the light?
-
Safe vs. Good God
Would you rather have a safe god who does whatever you want, never challenges you, never lets anything bad happen? Or a good God who is powerful, does things you don't understand, sometimes lets you go through hard things?
Why did you pick that one? When have you experienced this tension between what feels "safe" and what's actually "good" in your life?
-
The Creed: Father, Almighty, Creator
The Creed tells us God is Father (personal), Almighty (powerful), and Creator (purposeful). Which of these three words resonates most with you right now, and why?
- Father: Personal connection
- Almighty: Ultimate power
- Creator: Meaningful purpose
Which is hardest for you to believe? Why?
-
Your Picture vs. Reality
When you think about "God," how does that picture match (or not match) what Psalm 139 describes? Where are the gaps between what you expect and who God actually is?
Personal Application
This week, I will...
Choose ONE concrete action to take based on your reflections:
- Write down three things about yourself that you're glad God knows about you (even the messy parts)
- Read Psalm 139 once a day for the next 5 days — underline the verses that hit you hardest
- Ask a trusted friend: "When you think about God, what's your first picture or feeling?" and share yours
- Take one thing you've been hiding or worrying about and tell God about it in prayer

How I'm Growing
On a scale of 1–10, how comfortable are you thinking about God as both personally loving AND powerfully sovereign?
- 1 = It's confusing or scary — these seem like opposites
- 5 = I get it intellectually but it doesn't really feel true yet
- 10 = This makes sense! I can trust him even when I don't understand everything
Why did you choose that number?

The Creed: God, Father Almighty, Creator
"I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth."
— Apostles' Creed
Father: Personal — he knows you, loves you, is for you
Almighty: Powerful — nothing is too hard for him
Creator: Purposeful — he made everything on purpose, including you
Next Steps
If you're ready to trust God more as both Father Almighty and Creator, consider this:
- Keep reading Psalm 139 this week — let it change how you see yourself
- Talk to a trusted adult or mentor about what "good but not safe" means for your life
- Ask God to show you areas where you've tried to make him into something safe instead of good
If you're still unsure, that's okay. Keep showing up. Understanding God as both personal and powerful takes time — and he's patient with you.
Bonus: Journal Prompt
If you could ask God one question about being both Father Almighty and Creator, what would it be?
Write it here, and come back to it next week.
